Muay Thai LessonsGet the Most Out of Your Muay Thai Lessons
So how can you tell if a gym teaches genuine Muay Thai? Even if you aren't totally familiar with Muay Thai, you at least must know that it includes punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and the Muay Thai clinch as well as defenses and counters for all of these attacks. If they aren't teaching all of these attacks, then it is probably what I like to call "phony" Muay Thai lessons. The number one way to get the best Muay Thai lessons taught to you is to find a great Muay Thai gym. For starters, you must make sure that any instructors have proper certification from the Thai Boxing Association USA (TBA) if you live in the United States. If they do not have this, then you might not want to take Muay Thai lessons from someone that is a Kung Fu expert, and is just looking at expanding their gym to include other martial arts. Also, the instructor that you choose should have a lot of experience, and actually have fought in real Muay Thai competitions. Why would you want to learn from someone that doesn't have any practical Muay Thai experience? You would just be wasting your time and money on useless Muay Thai lessons. And remember, there is nothing better than a structured curriculum when it comes to learning anything, especially a martial art like Muay Thai. Ask the instructor if he/she can tell you what the requirements are and what Muay Thai techniques will be taught to you and how will your progress be measured. What types of drills will you be doing, what types of combinations do they teach, and what methods do they use to train their students? If they can't answer you quickly and directly, then it probably isn't going to be a very effective place to learn Muay Thai.
